What a Day to be at Lindenwood!

Nelly Visits Lindenwood

Wow - what a day here on our St. Charles campus! From Twitter buzz at lunchtime to a visit from Nelly, there was plenty to talk, er I mean, brag about today! First, check out a few photos from our scholarship event this afternoon with Nelly...

These two photos are with TV Reporting student Jessica Rogers; here she is interviewing him along side our local St. Louis media. The next is a shot of her shooting, what we call in TV, a "stand-up". Check out her report for LU-TV on her blog soon.

Today's event was sponsored by Lindenwood University's Black Student Union. It was a scholarship awards ceremony honoring two area high school students who will be attending LU next fall. Fox2, CW11, KSDK and the Post-Dispatch all covered the event. I'll be tweeting links to their stories later, so watch for those.

Twitter and Facebook Event

Also today, we set up a table outside of the cafeteria in the Spellmann Center to discuss Lindenwood University's new Facebook page, and our various school Twitter accounts.

Many thanks to our students Julie, Samantha, Chance and Andrew for helping inform others about Twitter and our school's social media efforts.

If you'd like to see more pictures from today's events, visit both @jillfalk's and @LU_Comm_School's Twitter pages - and sign up to follow us if you haven't done so already!

Here's a photo of TV Reporting student Alex Kerns interviewing Samantha about Twitter. Catch the full report on her blog next week.

COM 130 - Gen Y Article Review

Don't forget, your next Gen Y Article Review blog post is due on Wednesday, 4/8. It's 350 words, 20 points, needs to be submitted to TurnItIn. You have two options for this assignment: you can select an article from our class reader like usual, or you can review this article from Newsweek about "Generation Diva".

I find it particularly interesting, since we will be hitting the advertising chapter soon. For those of you who have already taken COM 327 Media Literacy, this article should be very easy for you to review. For those that choose this article, your blog can be more of your reaction to the material covered, since it deals more with the very youngest of Generation Y, but mostly, Generation Z. Ladies, feel free to share your own personal experiences with this as well, since you might be able to relate to it more than the guys in the class.

For everyone else who sticks with a current events article from the class reader, make sure you do relate the article to how it impacts Gen Y.

See you on Wednesday! I guess we'll only be seeing each other once this week, since there isn't class on Friday.

COM 130, 9:00a.m. - 4/6 Cancelled

Survey of Professional Media is cancelled for today. Please check back later this afternoon for instructions about Wednesday's Gen Y Article Review Assignment. It is still due, but I'm going to give you an article review to look over if you haven't selected one already.
