I thought todays talk was great. I am glad that there were so many people in the disscussion and so many differing opnions. We have a very diverse class and I think that will make it a great semester. You picked some really good topics as well. I think the teacher myspace topic is going to be a very tough one for school boards and parents to deal with. If you tell teachers they cant have an account then that is almost like telling them they cant have an identity outside of class. On the other hand with all of the student teacher relationships there have been, it has to be hard for school districts to give another outlet to teachers and students to "get together". As for Obama we will just have to see over the next few months if his attempt to get younger voters is going to work or if we will even get out and vote.

I enjoyed the discussion and felt that it really got the class involved. It's hard to ignore these topics and ignore others opinions of them. One of my favorite things about TIME magazine is the letters at the beginning about previous articles- w/o reading the article in discussion I can gain varying opinions and a great deal of knowledge on a topic. I got the same feeling from "Media Talks".

I've never blogged and I don't have MySpace or Facebook, but I enjoyed our discussion today. I've been receiving emails from Biden and Obama in which their subjects are entitled "Hello" or "Hi." Similar to what someone said in class, this does seem to add a personal approach. Did anyone see the Zumwalt West event on Fox this morning? They threw a squid, for fun, until it split in half. I contacted Fox and said that if it had been a domestic animal, the courts would have been all over the news, and if they have trouble coming with creative, important stories, I'm sure we can contribute!

Tina, that's an interesting point! You are already thinking about media in the "media talk" mindset!

On Target Audiences: I realized that people focus so much on what others think, or have that they lose sight of their goals. They can become so wrapped up in meaningless advertisements, which impact their actions/behavior. The media almost transforms a person from the inside out. Have you seen the Dove commercial where the little girl doesn't understand how to filter messages? Dove created workshops for young girls due to media brainwashing.

I would just like to comment on the topic of "Should Teacher's Have A Facebook Page?" I personally don't see a problem with it. After all, they're people too! And if you care so much about who's seeing your page, then you should tweak your privacy setting so that only people who are "your friends" can see your profile. I agree that kids need privacy and that there should be a distinct separation between school and socializing. So if need be, simply reject a teacher's friend request. No one's forcing you to hit 'accept'. I know a couple of my friends' parents have a Facebook account because they either A) have friends they enjoying talking to on a regular basis via computer or B) they're checking-up on their kids. But again, it's your decision to accept or reject, and that's one of the beauties of Facebook! In addition, I have a teacher from high school whom I became pretty good friends with my junior and senior year due to being on the school newspaper and yearbook. She has a Facebook account because she says she wants to be able to stay in touch with alumni and a few of her college friends she found on there. I'm "friends" with her on Facebook because I'm friends with her in real life, because I found that if I had a question about an assignment I knew she would most likely be online to ask, and because she's one of those "cool" teacher's who don't care what your wall, status, or Bumper Stickers on Facebook say. Who's she going to tell anyway? So all in all, I think sure, why can't teacher's have their own Facebook account?

I'm not sure if this blog is being used, but I heard a little girl singing the Band-Aid Brand commercial song in the store the other day. It caught my attention because of our discussion on Children as Target Audiences. Jingles are actually a good advertising technique for kids!
